VMware, in an attempt to bring public cloud experience to data centers, announced their acquisition of Avi Networks on 13th of June, 2019.

This acquisition creates the only complete industry-defined networking stack, designed for multi-cloud era. This is an attempt by VMware to establish itself as a company that helps its clients manage their virtual machines, regardless of their location, and not just as a company that helps them build & manage their data centers.

VMware is a part of Dell Technologies & announced their acquisition of the six-year-old start-up – Avi Networks which provides organizations with solutions to overcome the rigidity & complexity of legal systems & Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) appliances.

The purchasing price hasn’t been revealed yet by either of the companies.

Avi is geared to transform itself as per the needs of its customers. While keeping abreast with the trend that more companies are switching to AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform, Avi has evolved as a modern alternative to load balancing appliances. It not only provides companies with software resource requirement-based solutions but also tracks the data behind those requirements, based on the companies’ location or needs.

Tom Gillis, SVP and GM for VMware’s Networking and Security business stated that VMware is committed to making data centers simple & easy to operate, as is the case with public clouds. He also emphasized that the addition of Avi Networks to the growing VMware networking system will help VMware achieve their goal.

Avi Networks co-founders Ranga Rajagopalan & Murali Basavaiah expressed their glee & explained that joining hands with VMware will help them align with a technology-based firm which is not only technology-driven & known for its go-to-market culture but is also seen as a visionary in the area of software-based solutions.

Avi Networks was found in 2012 & is worth 115 million now (as is depicted by Crunchbase Data).  Post-acquisition, several Avi customers including – Deutsche Bank, Telegraph Media Group, Hulu and Cisco will become part of VMware.
