Elon Musk- The new CEO of Twitter
The founder and CEO of Tesla, Space X, SolarCity and The Boring Company is all set to take over Twitter.
Musk acquired the highly popular Social Media platform for $44 billion. Some say that he ‘probably made the most expensive joke ever’ as he recently tweeted a short clip of him carrying a sink into the Twitter headquarters with the caption: Entering Twitter HQ- Let that sink in!”
After officially acquiring Twitter, he instantly fired Parag Agarwal from the position of CEO, making him the current CEO. He also let go of other high-level executives and changed his Twitter bio to ‘Chief Twit”.
The company does not yet know the duration for which he will be staying in the current position of CEO. According to a report by Bloomberg, he will continue as the provisional CEO before appointing somebody else. Further, he dissolved the Board of Directors, making him the only Director of the company. Currently, he is preparing to charge $20 per month for the ‘Twitter Blue Badge subscription’, which also includes the verification of the users.
Nevertheless, here has been a lot of conjecture as to why he went forward with the deal of buying the company, with some speculating that the motive is money. In response to this, he tweeted a statement which read, “The reason why is acquired Twitter is because it is important for the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.” He further explains in the following tweets that he did not buy Twitter to gain money or because it would be easy, he did it to try and help humanity through humility, keeping in mind that it can very much be possible.
