Apple delays launch of AR/VR headset due to software issues
Since the acceleration of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, Apple headset has also stepped into the game.
Its long-awaited AR/VR headset was expected to release in the second quarter of 2023.
Now, as per Apple’s analyst Min-Chi Kuo, there is expected to be a delay in the launch of the Mixed Reality headsets.
Ming broke the news via Twitter. One of his tweets stated, “My latest survey indicates that the mass shipment schedule of Apple’s MR headset may delay to 2H23 because of software related issues (vs. The previous estimate of 2Q23).”
Although the official launch of the AR/VR headset is delayed to 2023, the shipments of its various components are expected to start in H1 Of 2023. As the launch is delayed, Apple may start creating and designing apps for the headset as it may release a Software Development Kit for the headset in the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event sometime in June.
Apple is not the only company that has faced delays with its AR/VR headset. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has also delayed the launch of its own headset, the Project Cambria.
Kuo estimates that Apple will be shipping less than 500,000 units of the headset in 2023, given that the headset would be quite expensive.
