Jersey City, N.J., June 9, 2026: Apple introduced an AI-powered version of Siri built on Apple Intelligence at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 in Cupertino, California, marking its most significant Siri overhaul since 2011 and a key step in the company’s effort to compete with rivals including OpenAI, Google and Anthropic. Apple introduced an AI-powered version of Siri built on Apple Intelligence…

The new Siri AI, powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence, can understand a user’s personal context, analyze onscreen content, search across messages, emails and photos, retrieve information from the web and complete tasks across Apple and third-party applications, according to Apple.

The announcement marks a major milestone in Apple’s AI strategy after the company delayed several advanced Siri features in 2025, saying the development effort was taking longer than expected. Apple first previewed many of the capabilities, including personal context understanding, onscreen awareness, and app actions, during WWDC 2024.

“We’re delivering the next generation of Apple Intelligence across our platforms,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, during the keynote presentation.

Apple described Siri AI as “an entirely new version of Siri” designed to help users find information and complete tasks more naturally through conversational interactions. The assistant can now locate information from messages, emails, photos and other personal data sources, answer questions related to content displayed on a user’s screen, and execute actions across apps without requiring users to manually navigate between applications.

The company also introduced a dedicated Siri application that allows users to revisit previous conversations and continue interactions across devices. Conversation history will be synchronized privately through iCloud, Apple said.

The Siri upgrade arrives as Apple faces increasing competition from AI-powered assistants such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini.

Reuters reported that investors and analysts have closely monitored Apple’s AI roadmap amid concerns that the company had fallen behind rivals in generative AI capabilities.

Reuters reported that Industry analysts offered mixed reactions to the announcement. Bob O’Donnell, president and Chief Analyst at TECHnalysis Research, told Reuters that the update “finally delivers on the promise of Siri.” While analyst Craig Moffett said the unveiling was not “earth-shaking” but could help establish Siri as a more credible AI assistant.

Beyond Siri, Apple announced broader Apple Intelligence enhancements across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27. New features include expanded Visual Intelligence capabilities, AI-powered writing tools, image-generation and photo-editing functions, and AI enhancements within Safari.

The company also introduced new child-safety features, including Ask to Browse controls that require parental approval before children visit unfamiliar websites, expanded content protections, and enhanced age-based restrictions across Apple services.

Apple said developers can begin testing the new software immediately, while a public beta will be available next month. The final software releases are expected to roll out as free updates later this year.

Siri AI will initially launch as a beta in supported English-language markets later in 2026. Apple said availability will expand to additional languages over time, although some features will not be immediately available in certain regions, including China and parts of the European Union.

The launch represents Apple’s most significant overhaul of Siri since the assistant debuted in 2011 and serves as the company’s latest effort to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence market.
